A note to new readers
I've been writing for the screen since 1999. I moved from Seattle to Hollywood in November of 2004. Three of my five screenplays are making the rounds.
My latest comedy, FALSE SECURITY, took 2nd place in the WriteSafe.com contest for the third quarter of 2005.
I wrote, produced, and directed a short film titled, Memoir.
I gained representation as a screenwriter in 2006.

Editors all across America are clearing their desks so they can get the heck out of the office and have a little fun. The desk-clearing includes sending out those pesky pass notes because the editors know if they don't they'll be buried in follow-up letters and emails come January.
I heard from The New Yorker yesterday on my second submission, Damage Control:
We're sorry to say that this manuscript is not right for us, in spite of
its evident merit. Unfortunately, we are receiving so many submissions that it is impossible for us to reply more specifically. We thank you for the chance to consider your work.
The Editors
That note caught my writerly eye. Compare it with their pass on, A Life on Earth in March:
We regret that we are unable to use the enclosed material. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider it.
The Editors
Part of this is my fault. A writer is supposed to read several issues of the target publication before submitting. I must confess that I haven't read an issue of The New Yorker in years. I was relying on memories of New Yorkers past. My bad. But the latest pass note is encouraging so they'll probably have another chance to consider my work in 2007.
Otherwise, I've been mostly unproductive the past 10 days. I gave in to the year's-end inertia. Just finishing this little article has been a major effort. I plan on hibernating through the New Year's mayhem. I'm just not up to the boozing and schmoozing required to properly bring in 2007. I'll just sneak into the time stream unnoticed sometime after the first. That seems like the path of least resistance, but I've been fooled before.
